Privacy Policy

Effective date: [to be set when published]

Zetesia ("Zetesia," "we," "us") operates a discovery-first social commerce platform based in Kenya, connecting shoppers directly with premium makers and businesses ("sellers" or "stores"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have, whether you're browsing as a shopper, running a store, or both. It applies to the Zetesia website, app, and any other service that links to it.

01

Introduction & Scope

Zetesia ("Zetesia," "we," "us") operates a discovery-first social commerce platform based in Kenya, connecting shoppers directly with premium makers and businesses ("sellers" or "stores"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have, whether you're browsing as a shopper, running a store, or both.

It applies to the Zetesia website, app, and any other service that links to it. It does not apply to the purchase itself: once a shopper and a seller agree to buy and pay directly, that transaction and the data around it belong to the two of them, not Zetesia (see Section 5).

02

Information We Collect

  • Account & profile data: name, email, phone number, and, for stores, business details (name, category, location) provided when you sign up.
  • Content you provide: photos, reels, listings, and descriptions sellers upload to their storefront. Today, connecting with a seller happens through WhatsApp, a third-party service not covered by this policy. In-app direct messaging is planned for a future app launch; this section will be updated once that ships.
  • Usage data: pages and stores viewed, searches, saves, likes, and comments, used to power the discovery algorithm.
  • Device & technical data: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, and general (city-level) location, collected automatically.
  • Analytics data: aggregated traffic and behavior data from Google Analytics and Bing's traffic measurement tools, covered further in Section 6.

We do not collect payment card details for purchases between shoppers and sellers, since that payment happens directly between the two of you, off Zetesia's platform (see Section 5).

03

How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

  • Power the AI discovery and search algorithm that surfaces stores and products.
  • Connect shoppers with sellers, today via WhatsApp; in-app messaging is planned for a future launch.
  • Process and bill store subscription payments.
  • Measure and improve the platform, using aggregated analytics from Google Analytics and Bing.
  • Send service updates and, where you've opted in, marketing communications.
  • Maintain the safety and integrity of the platform, including identifying spam or fraudulent accounts.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

04

How We Share Your Information

  • Public store & listing information: store profiles, photos, product listings, and public engagement (likes, comments) are visible to anyone using Zetesia, that's the point of the discovery experience.
  • Direct messages: Zetesia currently connects shoppers with sellers via WhatsApp, a third-party service Zetesia doesn't own and has no visibility into; that conversation is covered by WhatsApp's own privacy policy, not this one. Once in-app messaging launches, this section will be updated to describe how those conversations are handled.
  • Service providers: we share limited data with providers who help us run the platform, for example cloud hosting, analytics (Google, Bing), and, for stores, a payment processor for subscription billing (to be named once a provider is confirmed).
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by Kenyan law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Zetesia, our users, or the public.

We do not sell personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers beyond the aggregated, non-identifying analytics described in Section 6.

05

Payments Between Shoppers and Sellers

Zetesia's model is zero-commission: when you buy from a store on Zetesia, you pay the seller directly, off-platform. Zetesia does not process, store, or have visibility into that payment, so we don't hold your card details, bank information, or transaction history for purchases made this way. Any dispute about a purchase is between you and the seller.

The one payment Zetesia does process directly is a store's subscription fee for using the platform. That payment is handled by [payment processor to be named], who receive the information needed to process it (for example, card or mobile money details); Zetesia does not store full card numbers.

06

Cookies & Analytics

We currently use Google Analytics and Bing's traffic measurement tools to understand how people use Zetesia, for example, which pages are visited and how long people stay, in aggregate, not to identify you individually. These tools use cookies or similar technology.

As Zetesia's marketing grows, this may expand to include advertising and retargeting tools (such as Meta Pixel or Google Ads) to measure how well campaigns perform. If that changes, we'll update this section and, where required, ask for your consent.

You can control cookies through your browser settings; note that some parts of the platform may not work properly if you disable them.

07

Data Retention

We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. Messages are kept for as long as needed to support the conversation and resolve any disputes or safety reports. Analytics data is retained in aggregated form for as long as it's useful for improving the platform.

If you delete your account, we'll delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period [timeframe to be set, e.g. 30–90 days], except where we're required to keep it longer for legal, safety, or accounting reasons.

08

Your Rights

Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal data we hold about you, and access a copy of it.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or outdated data.
  • Ask us to delete your data, subject to legal or safety exceptions.
  • Object to certain uses of your data, including for marketing.
  • Request your data in a portable format.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) if you believe we've mishandled your data.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 13.

09

Children's Privacy

Zetesia is intended for users aged 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we've collected data from a minor, we'll take steps to delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

10

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse, including access controls and encrypted connections. No system is completely secure, though, and we can't guarantee absolute security, especially for data you choose to share directly with another user, such as in a message.

11

International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers, such as cloud hosting and analytics providers, may process data outside Kenya. Where that happens, we take steps to ensure your data is protected to a standard consistent with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

12

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Zetesia grows, for example as we add new features, markets, or service providers. We'll post the updated version here with a new effective date, and where a change is significant, we'll make a reasonable effort to let you know directly.

13
